A week and some to go...

It is a week and a half until I head across the pacific to Japan. The checklist is pretty full right now, however my non-anxious behavior might not make that seem very apparent. The major piece of news right now is getting the work visa arranged. I just received my certificate of eligibility from the Orden Bunka Center (which is the school that I will be teaching at). I will be going into Portland on Monday to hand in my application materials and beg them to process it soon so that I will have my passport by July 8th. I guess it is kind of important to have a passport when traveling internationally : ) I don't think there should be any hangups, at least that is what I am hoping for.

In the mean time, I have been working some and just trying to enjoy my remaining time at home. I have been playing my electric bass quite a bit this summer and I am realizing how much I am going to miss having that musical outlet. I have debated about bringing my cello or even my bass with me, but that is still in question. Nevertheless, I will surly be interacting with music to some degree while I am there and should be coming home with some musical concoctions from Japan.

That's about it for now, things will be picking up soon though, say in about a week and a half.

  4. I am so excited about your blog! I can't wait for the next installment.

That's great that you'll figure out a musical outlet while abroad. You should try to play the shamisen. However, from what I've heard of the accompanying vocals, I'd recommend you not sing along with it (at least in the traditional style).

  5. It is now Friday the 10th, and the biggest question on my mind is this: did Mike ever make it to Japan after leaving 2 days ago?
